School Covid-19 Catch-Up Premium

Covid-19 catch up premium: £1 billion funding split between £650m catch-up premium and £350m National Tutoring Programme

The Department for Education has announced additional funding to support children and young people to catch up.  This includes a one-off universal £650 million catch-up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year.  This additional funding is to ensure schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time.

  • Schools’ allocations will be calculated on a per pupil basis, providing each mainstream school with a total of £80 for each pupil in years' reception through to 11.
  • The funding will be paid as a grant and will only be available for the 2020/21 academic year.

  • This funding will be allocated to schools in 3 installments. An initial part payment in autumn 2020, will be based on the latest available data on pupils in mainstream schools and high needs place numbers in school.

  • A second grant payment will be made in early 2021, based on updated pupil and place data. For mainstream schools, the 4 to 15 pupil headcount from the October 2020 census will be used.

  • A third grant payment will  be paid during the summer term 2021.

Based on 106 children in October 2020 at £80 per child equals £8480
