Who are the famous Lincolnshire born figures we have named our teams after?

I am Henry of Bolingbroke

I was actually King Henry IV who lived between 15 April 1367 – 20 March 1413.

I was King of England and Lord of Ireland from 1399 to 1413.

I was born at Bolingbroke Castle in Lincolnshire, and was called Henry of Bolingbroke.

I am Matthew Flinders

I was the first person to sail all the way round Australia.

I was born in Donington, Lincolnshire and went to Donington Grammar School.

It is widely believed that I was the first person to name ‘Australia’!

I am Sir Isaac Newton

I discovered gravity when an apple hit me on the head whilst reading under a tree.

I was born in the tiny village of Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, Lincolnshire, England and went to school at Kings Grammar, Grantham.

I am Alfred, Lord Tennyson

I was born in Somersby, Lincolnshire, and famous for being one the finest poets in Victorian Britain.

 

I became poet laureate in 1850 and was very good friends with Queen Victoria. My best known poems are ‘Charge or the Light Brigade’ and ‘Ulyses’.
